WHAT IS ACT?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a treatment package that combines several traditions such as early behaviourism, positive psychology and mindfulness. ACT is a trans-diagnostic model that has been successfully used to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, eating disorders and substance misuse just to name a few. ACT’s target is to promote psychological flexibility, that is, the ability to behave in a way that is consistent with one’s values even in the presence of aversive experiences (e.g. thoughts, feelings, physical pain). This is true as much for our clients as for the ACT practitioner. If you work in a context in which behaviour change is paramount, than this course will provide you with some very useful tools.

UNABLE TO ATTEND IN PERSON?
If you have other commitments or simply don’t want to incur the cost and hassle of travelling to London, this course is also available via webcast, so you can join at your convenience in the comfort of your own home or office. Webcasts are an increasingly popular way for delegates to study and take part in our courses. During the webcast you can to submit questions to the tutor online. You can also engage in a discussion about the course with other delegates participating in the webcast, vote if you agree with their opinions and take part in group surveys conducted during the course.

NO TIME TO ATTEND ON THE DAY?
Never mind! All webcasts are available to view via video for up to 28 days after the live training course. Providing you watch all it in its entirety, you will still qualify for the certificate of attendance for this highly recommended British Psychological Society approved training course.

ABOUT THE TRAINER
Nuno Ferreira is a Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh where he teaches and supervises research projects across several post-graduate programmes in Clinical Psychology. His main research focus has been on the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for long-term or chronic health conditions. Nuno has published a book and several research articles on ACT and is regular presenter at several international conferences in this subject area. Dr Ferreira has delivered this ACT course for SDS Seminars several times, always with excellent feedback:
“Clear, humanistic and intuitive. Even when challenged (sometimes under very robust circumstances!) Dr Ferreira was able to inform, explore, engage and explain a very useful therapy.”

About this Blog

This is our first attempt to join the exciting world of blogging and bring to you all the fresh and hot news about the world of psychology and, of course, about your favourite training company. This is our new enterprise and we are finding our way in this mysterious world of blogging cautiously (but surely...) :-)
We are hoping to move our popular SDS Delegate Debate into this blogging format in the future and looking forward to lively discussions here with you. We are planning to start with publishing already existing SDS Delegate Debates — with comments received from you. Then we'll move to the current news as well as will run new delegate debates there.
Feel free to leave comments to any of the posts — whether they are old debates, the news or new debates. As you can guess — every blogger loves his readers and LIVES for the comments. :-) We are just the same. You don’t need to register in order to be able to comment. You can leave your feedback as “Anonymous”, however, may we ask you to sign you name (or nick) at the end of your comment (even if you are commenting without logging in) so that we know how to address you.
Another useful tool that SDS Blog provides us with is availability of Polls that enable us to find out your views about various subjects. Polls are located on the left panel of the page and updated regularly. Please feel free to vote. You can see the results of each poll by clicking the button "Results".
If you wish to register — nothing can be easier — you just open a Google account — most of you, surely, already use one.
Your comments are read by SDS Consultants regularly and — in many cases — replied to.
The blog is moderated — mainly to protect you and other readers from spam and irrelevant comments.
All posts are tagged — hopefully it'll help you to find your way around there.
Wish us luck and please join the list of our followers.
